Convert laptop track pad to an external USB mouse

I have hp pavilion dv2000 laptop which was not useful as a laptop due to over heating problem.
every ones in 2 month the hard disk will crash and i need to replace the heard disk.
This was the triggering point that i thought i will tear down the laptop and make use of each and every part of the laptop.

In this article I will convert the mouse track pad of this laptop to an external USB mouse. There will be yet more post for each other components that i converted, like DVD drive to External portable drive etc.

First i disassembled the laptop using the below link.
http://tim.id.au/laptops/hp/hp%20pavilion%20dv2000.pdf

The track pad was having a model 430464-010.

And with a IC number TM 00396-001 TB 717-062 MNNN2-26-S610

From a quick Google search i could find out that the interface for this touch pad is PS2 from synaptic.
I got much details from the below link on connection etc.

Now I can use a PS2 to USB converter for converting, But the problem is how to map the connection wires. The Touchpad is with 8 pin connectors and ps2 is of 6 pin connector and only 4 pins are useful.

From the synaptic interface guide there is pin out for some other models.

After a bit of tracking the connector on the PCB. I could figure out that the actual pin out is

Now its the time for soldering and testing. My friend Sreerag Raghavan helped me in finding the pinout and soldering.

After connecting the touchpad with USB converter I just plugged the device to laptop. voila It works and does not need any additional drivers. Tested in Ubuntu 12.04 and windows 8.

Finished Touchpad
